I keep getting viruses!
“My desktop keeps shutting down because of spyware. I have anti-virus software on my computer; I don’t understand why this keeps happening.”
Even though you may have anti-virus software installed on your desktop, most software becomes outdated before it can become effective. For example, one new infected web page is discovered every 4.5 seconds.1 That web page could be infected with a newly created virus that your anti-software is not equipped to block.
Why are viruses created?
Some create viruses because they think it's a game. Some create viruses for the money. Some create viruses to feed their ego. Viruses have become so advanced that the creators are now looking for targets other than credit card numbers and social security numbers.2
What is the latest threat?
If you shop online or do any online banking, you will want to make sure that your information is 100% secure. One of the biggest rewards is when a creator can install keystroke loggers to retrieve information to access online banking accounts.2 Keystroke loggers can collect information such as your name, address, credit card numbers and passwords.
A credit card record that was worth $10 in 2007, is going for under .50 cents today.2
